Trail Riding with My New Horse “Oakley”

Hello everybody! I will be doing most of my blogging from my computer in my bedroom. My computer faces the window and I have an amazing view of mountains, trees, the river, and our horse pasture. It was a very sunny day today and we even got a chance to relax at the river. Next Thursday I will be finishing up my sophomore year of high school and starting my summer vacation (yay!).

My summer is going to be very busy but I am super excited! I will be riding my 3 horses very much. Their names are Missy, Joey, and Oakley. I will also use them this summer to be a wrangler at my grandparent’s ranch outside of Yamhill. It is called the Flying M Ranch. Our job is to take guided trail rides for customers. You can ride one of our horses or bring your own. If anyone is looking for a great place to camp and trail ride, the Ranch is very beautiful place, we even host weddings.

Besides that I will also be getting ready for the Yamhill County Fair with Missy and Joey. Missy is my gaming horse and we run barrels, poles, figure 8, key race, NSCA flag race, and the two barrel flag race. This year is Joey’s first year to be ridden at the county fair because he is now 3 years old. The previous 2 years we competed from the ground. This year, we will be doing showmanship, western classes and trail. I am very excited to be riding him now! Now that hay season has started we have been bucking hay for our horses. I don’t know about you guys, but nothing says summer time like being in the scorching hot sun and being covered in hay and sweat. Besides horsey things, I will be babysitting and working at our wedding venue. By the way, if anyone is looking for a beautiful rustic wedding venue, look us up! I am very excited to see what my summer holds for me!

Last week we picked up my new horse Oakley. Oakley is going to be my next barrel racing horse because Missy is getting old. Oakley is a bay with 3 white socks and a blaze. She originally came from Oklahoma but now we just call her Oakley, like Annie Oakley. She is a roping horse but she is very fast so I am going to teach her how to run barrels and poles. She is a lot smaller then Missy so I am going to have to get used to that. Now that Oakley is a rope horse I am going to learn how to rope!

Stay tuned for more blogs about my summer adventures with my horses!
