Staying at home more often lately? There are only so many times you can vacuum the floors, organize your pantry, and clean the bathroom. Maybe you’ve found enjoyment cooking and trying out new recipes or spending more time outside working on your farm or yard. The extra time at home has given me more reasons to do the things I enjoy doing – specifically arts and crafts projects. With Memorial Day and the 4th of July just around the corner, I decided to make something festive for the occasion. I searched online and found the cutest patriotic wreath to make for our front door and wanted to share how you can make one too!
All you need are a few items that you may already have at home or that you can easily buy online:
Step 1 –
Make a design plan. Decide where you want each color to be placed on the wire wreath frame. For me, I wanted to have my blue bandanas on the left and the red and white ones on the right side to resemble a flag.
Step 2 –
Fold and cut all your bandanas in half.
Step 3 - Fold the cut bandana in thirds lengthwise - the first two folds edges facing each other (this way you can eliminate showing raw edges) and then fold in half two more times to create a thin strip.
Step 4 –
Loop your bandana, place under the wire wreath with the loop facing on the outside edge, tie a knot to secure in place. Keep looping the rest of your bandanas in place.
And voilà! There you have it. An easy craft to spruce up your home for summertime or any day of the year. What’s great about this craft is that you can use any color of bandanas and customize the wreath to your liking – for a child’s room, school colors, or other holidays.

- Fabric Scissors
- 12” - 14” Wire Wreath Frame or embroidery hoop (any size depending on how large or small you’d like your wreath to be)
- 22” x 22” Traditional Paisley Bandannas: 4 Red, 3 Blue, and 4 White
- Optional: Fabric starch (add this step at the very end to help keep your bandanas in place)
