About Blue Rhino Propane Tank Exchange
- If you do have an empty tank, it's as easy as Drop, Swap, & Go.
- Drop your empty tank beside the propane display. Don't bring tanks inside!
- Purchase a fresh filled tank from the cashier. An employee will meet you at the tank display outside to hand you a new tank
- Tanks with round- or star-shaped handwheels do not contain OPDs and are obsolete.
- Tanks with triangular shaped handwheels contain OPDs and are OK to use.
- OPD= Overfill Protection Device
- The US Department of Transportation (DOT) prohibits the transportation of tanks older than 12 years. Look for a date stamp on or near the collar of the tank. The date (month & year of re-qualification inspection) is usually stamped on the edge of the tank collar.
- New Blue Rhino filled tanks contain 15lbs of propane.
